Trees
These vibrant wall hangings are created using a wet felting process.  Wool, silk and organic
materials such as leaf skeletons and bark are worked with hot soapy water until they felt together
to create a natural bond.

My early felt works were inspired by my love of trees.  I thought about trees rooted in the same
place for decades suffering the indignities of pollution and chainsaws.  So I gave them legs and
voices to discuss their environment and their feelings, to protest and run from a bad habitat.

Each of the tree felts contains a tiny bit of reality and a lot of whimsy. The trees are wise, funny,
smart alecks who deal with their own struggles of identity, gender, origin, global and environmental
issues, illness and their sense of belonging.  The titles reflect those struggles and issues.

I have a number of themes going at the   moment: Tree Revival - trees facing issues of survival and
rebirth (
Tree on a Protest March), Tree Migration/Evolution -   trees going places (Palm migration -
Next Stop Somalia
), and Tree Discourse - two trees discussing an important point (Palms at the
Learned Society
).
